Super Junior's Donghae and SNSD's Seohyun Are UNICEF Special Envoys
Super Junior’s Donghae and SNSD’s Seohyun, who donated their talents in recording the digital single “Dreams Come True” for charity, were formally invested as international aid organization UNICEF’s special envoys. The ceremony took place in Seoul on October 11, which also marked the release date of their duet.
“I feel honored to have been appointed as a special envoy for the UNICEF,” Seohyun said. “I feel that we were appointed on behalf of other singers, and will commit to doing my duty towards promoting the UNICEF.”
Donghae said, “There are ways of helping children. Learn more through UNICEF, and how the small hand we extend can create greater happiness.”
He likewise expressed his commitment on his Twitter, uploading photos with Seohyun at the ceremony and containing the message “Being appointed by the UNICEF is an honor, and I hope I live up to the standards.”
The two singers also presented two dolls that they had personally decorated, bearing their names, “Lee Donghae” and “Seohyun.”
Donghae and Seohyun’s charity duet “Dreams Come True” is also the theme song of the 2011 Asia Song Festival. They will perform it live, along with other Festival singers to close the event at Daegu Stadium on October 15.
Meanwhile, “Dreams Come True” has gone on sale on music sites following Donghae and Seohyun’s appointment ceremony. All proceeds from the sale of the digital single will go towards the UNICEF programs to help children in famine-stricken East African countries.

Korean Pop Machine, Running on Innocence and Hair Gel

Think of the work required to make just one Justin Bieber. The production, the management, the vocal training, the choreography, the swagger coaching — all that effort to create one teen-pop star in a country that’s still starving for them. South Korea has no such drought, thanks to several companies that specialize in manufacturing a steady stream of teenage idols, in groups of various configurations. One of the longest-running of these companies is SM Entertainment, which on Sunday night hosted SM Town Live, a sold-out showcase at Madison Square Garden for several of its acts, any one of which any American reality-TV talent show or major-label A&R department worth its salt would be thrilled to have discovered.
American teen-pop at its peak has never been this productive. K-pop — short for Korean pop — is an environment of relentless newness, both in participants and in style; even its veteran acts are still relatively young, and they make young music. Still, there were subtle differences among the veterans, like BoA and TVXQ, and the newer-minted acts like Super Junior, Girls’ Generation and SHINee.
Members of the younger set are less concerned with boundaries, drawing from the spectrum of pop of the last decade in their music: post-Timbaland hip-hop rumbles, trance-influenced thump, dance music driven by arena-rock guitars, straightforward balladry.
Of these groups, the relative newcomer SHINee was the most ambitious. From the looks of it, the group’s men are powered by brightly colored leather, Dr. Martens boots and hair mousse. Their music, especially “Replay,” “Ring Ding Dong” and “Juliette,” felt the riskiest, even if it only slightly tweaked that polyglot K-pop formula; these vocalists were among the night’s strongest.
But SHINee came in a recognizable format, the same size as American groups like ’N Sync and the Backstreet Boys. But what K-pop has excelled at in recent years are large groups that seem to defy logic and order. Super Junior, which at its maximum has 13 members, was one of this show’s highlights, appearing several times throughout the night in different color outfits, shining on “Mr. Simple” and the intense industrial dance-pop of “Bonamana.” (K.R.Y., a sub-group of Super Junior, delivered what may have been the night’s best performance on “Sorry Sorry Answer,” a muscular R&B ballad.)
Super Junior was complemented by the nine-woman Girls’ Generation, which offered a more polite take on K-pop, including on “The Boys,” which is its debut American single. Girls’ Generation gave perhaps the best representation of K-pop’s coy, shiny values in keeping with a chaste night that satisfied demand, but not desire. (It was an inversion on the traditional American formula; in this country young female singers are often more sexualized than their male counterparts.)
Male and female performers shared the stage here only a couple of times, rarely getting even in the ballpark of innuendo. In one set piece two lovers serenaded each other from across the stage, with microphones they found in a mailbox (he) and a purse (she). In between acts the screens showed virginal commercials about friendship and commitment to performance; during the sets they displayed fantastically colored graphics, sometimes childlike, sometimes Warholian, but never less than cheerful.
In the past few years K-pop has shown a creeping global influence. Many acts release albums in Korean and Japanese, a nod to the increasing fungibility of Asian pop. And inroads, however slight, are being made into the American marketplace. The acts here sang and lip synced in both Korean and English. Girls’ Generation recently signed with Interscope to release music in the United States. And in August Billboard inaugurated a K-Pop Hot 100 chart. But none of the acts on the SM Town Live bill are in the Top 20 of the current edition of the fast-moving chart. This is a scene that breeds quickly.
Which means that some ideas that cycle in may soon cycle out. That would be advisable for some of the songs augmented with deeply goofy rapping: showing the English translation of the lyrics on screen didn’t help. The best rapping of the night came from Amber, the tomboy of the least polished group on the bill, f(x), who received frenzied screams each time she stepped out in front of her girly bandmates.
If there was a direct American influence to be gleaned here, it was, oddly enough, Kesha who best approximates the exuberant and sometimes careless genrelessness of K-pop in her own music; her songs “Tik Tok” and “My First Kiss” (with 3OH!3) were covered during this show.
But while she is simpatico with the newer K-pop modes, she had little to do with the more mature styles. Those were represented by the Josh Groban-esque crooning of Kangta, lead singer of the foundational, long-disbanded Korean boy band H.O.T., who made a brief appearance early in the night, and the duo TVXQ, a slimmed-down version of the long-running group by that name, who at one point delved into an R&B slow jam reminiscent of Jodeci or early Usher. BoA, the night’s only featured solo artist, has been making albums for a decade, and her “Copy & Paste” sounded like a vintage 1993 Janet Jackson song.
She’ll also star in “Cobu,” a 3-D dance film to be released next year, previews of which induced shrieks before the concert began. The crowd also screamed at an ad for Super Junior Shake, an iPhone game app, and for the SM Entertainment global auditions, which will take place early next year in several countries, and will keep the machine oiled for years to come.

K-Pop Performance

The Seoul Metropolitan Government has lined up K-Pop singers for an advertising campaign for the city’s tourist attractions targeting Asia.
The City Government will join forces with SM Entertainment to arrange a concert tour in China, Southeast Asia, and Taiwan to promote Seoul and Korean pop culture to concertgoers.

The tour will start with a performance in Taiwan by popular idol singer SHINnee on Saturday. Next is Nanjing, China in August, followed by Southeast Asia in the second half of the year. The city government will set up a Seoul PR Zone there to distribute promotional materials and video clips about the city.

It will also hold a singing contest at the performance venues in Southeast Asia, whose winners get free tickets to Seoul.

An essay competition themed around dream destinations in late July aims to support the Korean Wave in China and Japan. The winners of the contest will have a chance to see the sights in Seoul they have written about.

According to Gaon charts on 9th September, “Mr Simple” which was released on 3th August, has sold 287,427 copies. Only DBSK’s official fifth album “Keep Your Head Down” has managed to sell over 200,000 copies this year. “Mr Simple”, which was released 1 year and 2 months after the fourth album, had already gained much attention from fans all over the world.

Infinite’s first official album “Over The Top” was placed second, which managed to sell 19,302 copies in one month, and an overall record of 48,165 copies in the year 2011. Leessang’s seventh album “AsuRa BalBalTa” was ranked 3rd, with sales reaching 14,222 copies.

The song “Turn Off The TV” was ranked 1st for sales in August, while the main song “My Answer Is You” was 8th. “Grand Final” was ranked 17th, and “Remembrance” was 18th, putting up a tough fight.

In addition, T-ara’s repackaged album “Roly-Poly in Copacabana” was ranked 4th, which sold 13, 122 copies. “I am a Singer” was placed 5th with 13, 095 copies.

This week will be the last week for Super Junior’s Kim Heechul to be doing promotional work for ‘Mr Simple’.

It has already been known that due to military enlistment Super Junior’s two members, Kim Heechul and Leeteuk, would not be able to do ‘Mr Simple’s activities for a long time. Recently, SM-E stated, “Due to Kim Heechul’s enlistment, this will be the last week for Mr. Simple promotions.”

Heehul told his fans, “I’m very grateful to fans for loving me in the past 6 years. But, I will not ask you to wait for me. Instead, for those who love me, please support me again after I come back and start the new activities.”
Heechul’s military enlistment shows his loyality towards his country. Other SJ members are very proud of his decision.

Heechul described his feeling for his band mates saying, “I am also very thankful to SJ members. They told and wrote me a direct letter saying, “Hyung, it can’t be if it’s not you (without you).”

I’m so thankful they let me know about that.” He jokingly added, “Despite the fact that I will be absent, I still believe that they(meant SJ members) would have a good lead.”

Moreover, Heechul said that he will take four week training from Nohn San. Afterwards, he will work as a public service employee at Sung Dong District. He said that due to his back injury he will work as a public service employee instead of serving in the army.

Numero-Heechul Interview

Numero Magazine Heechul Part
Q1: What are the changes you experience after becoming a member of SJ?

A1: Changes are that there are finally people taking planes with me (laugh). Thinking that there are no other groups that fly all over the world like us. And that now I have a group of comrades.

When I debuted alone, even though I have other artist friends, but at the end of work, I feel lonely after I reach home. Now after reaching home, I will discuss the day’s performance contents with the members, we will watch and say out our thoughts together, so it’s really happy. I’m grateful for all the members who are always at my side.

Q2: What are your dreams as SJ?

A2: Keeping the status quo. Now at this moment, I feel very blissed and happy. I won’t expect more, I just sincerely pray that it will always be like this.

Q3: Up till now during all the SJ activities, which one was the most touching for you?

A3: During 08 when my grandfather passed away, if there wasn’t my members’ support, there will not be a me today. I received the news during a performance in the US, and I immediately bought a return ticket to Korea, but I still couldn’t reach in time to see my grandfather for the last time. It was the first time I felt great pain and grief, I cried really hard. At that time, after the members are done performing, they rushed to the funeral immediately and give me a warm hug.

They also stayed with me till the end of the funeral. Not only the members, but I’m grateful to the company as well. I put my family above anything else, so every year at the start of the year, I would give the company my plan for my family for the year ahead. And the company will then schedule my rest days, hence I’m really grateful for the company, as they really respect me.

Q4: What is the happiest moment recently in your life?

A4: Last year we welcomed our 5th year since debut. Our members sat down and talked all night. We have a lot of members, so fights and quarrels are inevitable, but these unhappiness will be settled on that day one that’s it. At that night, we’ve decided to give up fighting for number one on charts, but rather to be a group that can interact with fans more.

Q5: What’s your role in the group?

A5: When I first debuted, I mostly lived by and for myself, so there was not much time where I can stay with the members. Sometimes, after performances, I do not even have time to return to the rest area with them, and I will have to rush off for the next appointment…..

I thought that, my workload now is trying to do what the other members’ can’t. For example like being a MC in a show, if it is always talking about other groups, I would say that our members are real good these days to change the topic.

Q6: Is there an Ideal Man that is your role model?

A6: I live in a world that says that I’m the best, so I’ve never thought of being another person (laughs). The person I love the most is myself, and my dream is to become the number one Ideal Man!

Q7: Places that you want to go the most now?

A7: Korea’s Kangwondo, Jeju Island, Kyungju. Japan’s Tokyo and Hokkaido. Normally we are always surrounded by high buildings and towers, so I would want to go to a place with mountains, rivers and nature.

Q8: Things that you want most now?

A8: Kids. I’m the oldest grandchild, and my grandma is anticipating for a great grandchild. But I must make it clear, I just want a kid, but I haven’t met a female whom I would want to marry. So I would want a Heechul Junior who really looks like me. And also for no reason, I would like to be a young dad of a cute baby.

Q9: The person you would like to see the most?

A9: If it’s possible, I would like to see my grandfather who had passed away.

Q10: What type of girls do you like?

A10: She must have pretty legs. Wearing a loose top and mini skirt. I don’t look at faces, I look at their body. You ask why? Because no one is prettier than me (laughs).
Q11: The part of your attire you care most about?

A11: Long pants that are up to my ankle. Because I have scars on my legs, so I never wear shorts.

Q12: Japanese artists that you would like to perform with the most?

A12: X-Japan, Rainbow, Mr Tamori, and many more.

Q13: Your future dream?

A13: Touring overseas and in Japan. I feel that compared to in the television, if we performed live, we can be closer to our fans. Also I would want to join Turn 99 show, if I was fluent in Japanese, confirmed that there will be loads of invitations from Japanese shows.

Q14: Favourite place in japan? Where do you always go in japan?

A14: When I first came to Tokyo, I went to Harajuku. I always thought that, the whole street would be full of people in cosplay costumes. In Harajuku, no matter how you dress, no one will ostracise you.

It is a natural and free place, so up till now, I still remember that place clearly.

Super Junior-Music Bank

Super Junior began, “Our society is going through such hard times lately…” Leeteuk named some of the issues currently headlining on the news, such as college tuition fees and employment, and went on to say, “I’m scared to even read newspaper articles. There are so many people who are suffering in life and it’s so upsetting. We hope that everyone will listen to ‘Mr. Simple‘ and brush off their worries, if only briefly. We want to be a source of strength for them.”
On August 5th, Super Junior finally made their long-awaited comeback on KBS’s ‘Music Bank’. The boys met up with reporters in their waiting room to talk about their hopes for this promotion cycle.
As such, the song contains positive and uplifting lyrics like, “There are good times and bad, and your performance can rise and fall. It’s okay, because you’re amazing just the way you are.” Their choreography also contains a ‘point’ where they ‘brush off their stress’ and straighten their shoulders broad and proud.
Leeteuk talked about their own struggles by revealing, “Our digital ranking often rises and falls. We just checked the charts before as well. Every time we go on stage, every time we go in for an interview, we’re always nervous. I think, however, we’ve found a way to control our stress. After appearing on a lot of variety shows, I find myself laughing more. I laugh even when it’s not funny because laughing makes you feel better. I’m overcoming depression with my team.”

THE AVANT-GARDE CONCEPT
Coming from Kyuhyun's Korean fansite "Secret," and other Korean ELFs, this was the first concept that spread in the internet. It was rumored that Super Junior will try a unique style this time based from the word "avant-garde" which means deviant or edgy. Based from Eunhyuk's photo teaser alone, it can be concluded that indeed, Super Junior has deviated from the black and white concept that they used both in the 3rd and 4th album.
THE GODS
This rumor circulated in twitter, saying that the concept of the 5th album will be about gods and goddesses from the Greek Mythology. However, it's funny that both Ryeowook and Heechul were the only "goddesses" among the group. True or not, Super Junior is indeed a god on its own. Here's the complete list!
Leeteuk as Zeus - The King of Gods.
Heechul as Aphrodite - The Goddess of Love and Beauty.
Yesung as Archilles - The Brave Warrior.
Shindong as Demeter - The Warm God of Harvest.
Sungmin as Dionysus - The Joyful God of Wine.
Eunhyuk as the cunning God of the Trade.
Donghae as Poisedon - The Moody God of Seas.
Siwon as Helious - The God of the Sun.
Ryeowook as Hera - The Mature Goddess of the Family.
Kyuhyun as Apollo - The Youthful God of the Music.
THE FLOWER BOYS
This sparked the conclusion that the concept for the 5th album would be Super Junior as flowers, therefore Eunhyuk as a rose, Donghae as a sunflower and so on.
RAINBOW
Ever since Eunhyuk dyed his hair, this speculation of a rainbow-themed Super Junior hasn't stopped. From the color of their hair and now the color of their photo teasers. A rumor circulated about the different colors and order of each members photo teaser.
1. Red - Eunhyuk
2. Orange - Sungmin
3. Yellow - Ryeowook
4. Green - Shindong
5. Blue - Donghae
6. Navy - Kyuhyun
7. Violet - Hee
8. Brown - Siwon
9. Black - Yeseong
10. White - Lee Teuk
Tomorrow, another photo teaser will be released by SM Entertainment. Everyone is guessing who would that member be, and hopefully, the answer to this hot question about Super Junior's 5th concept would finally answered. After all, it's not the concept that matters, what's important is that ELFs will continue to support them no matter what the concept of the album is. How about you? What do you think is the idea of the 5th album?
This concept came from a Korean ELF's guess relating Eunhyuk's picture and Donghae's past tweet. If you will see it closely, in Eunhyuk's tattoo, there's a rose-like stem in his neck. Adding up is the rose-colored theme of the picture. Donghae's tweet on the other hand is an old saying or a pun, which translates to "Looking at you I'm a Sunflower :)"

A blurry image of the new couple has been aired in the October 1st episode of WGM. During that time, Kang Sora's nose and lips revealed but those are enough for people to recognized her.

SuJu style

Super Junior is back more sexier, bolder, and colorful than ever.
The group still manage to be the top-selling album in South Korea and stayed #1 in Taiwan for 61 weeks in a row in 2010. Suspect a repeat with their newest album Mr.Simple.
The 13 man band had their fair shares of up and downs lately. With Kibum not present and Kangin completing madatory military service. Many fans worried if the core of Super Junior has been broken.
Although these promotional/performance set backs manifest back in 2010 prior to the release of Bonamana.
Easy to follow yet catchy course with addictive melodies and a beat that commands. This continues with “Opera,’ “Be My Girl,” “Walkin’,” and “Feels Good.” Needless to say you will hear a western influence on the lines of Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears. Is this SuJu attempt to have global appeal? Most likely but to only consider that would be musical blasphemy to Elfs.
Majority of K-pop is searching to obtain international fandom through media, SuJu more through music. “Good Friends” is a soulful r&b track straight from 70′s and this albums hidden master piece. While “White Christmas” is a pop rock ballad that only Japanese idols are known to pull off.
The full length album is a risk of its own since most groups still settle for mini. Instead Super Junior wanted to give fans the full experience of their music. The main title “Mr.Simple” is classic SuJu style.
The up beat tempo of “Sunflower” kindly refreshes the album with Korea’s infamous charm to romance and completes its multi feel appeal.
The pop R&B style of “Y” and “My Love,My Kiss My Heat” has modren U.S appeal. SuJu hasn’t forgotten the importance of ballad lovers. “Storm” and ”Memories” are for Chinese fans who can’t get enough of broken-hearted romance.

After listening to Mr.Simple you get a feel that Super Junior is ‘well traveled’ on a musical stand point.
I think K-poppers will enjoy this album and the many different sounds created. Whether it feels western, Japanese, Chinese or truly Korean SuJu successful has touch grounds on what makes
To incorporate different music styles into their album seem crucial to the over all affect.
There isn’t a primary focus but to title this album “Mr.Simple” to something that seems more complex is a play on words.
Asian pop so attractive to listeners all over the world.
Consider this a regional album that will dominate the other half of 2011 **** 4 stars

Eunhyuk is her ideal type

On the recent episode of “Strong Heart“, actress Kim Bomi who acted in the movie “Sunny”, had revealed that Super Junior’s dancing machine Eunhyuk is her ideal type!

As the Strong Heart “tradition”, people reveal their personal stories (so this must be true), in which Kim Bomi’s was named “My love, Anchovy” (quite blunt, isn’t it?).

Following her pretty darn obvious title, she revealed, “Eunhyuk’s bright smile is kind of dorky but really cute.”

Boom had kindly informed the actress that Eunhyuk had been voted the least good looking member out of the group, in which she had responded, “I don’t like guys that are too good-looking”, causing some explosive laughter from the audience and guests.

Our adorable Anchovy had also admitted his interest towards the pretty actress with the comment, “I tried to approach her but Chansung beat me to it.”

Well, I don’t know if this is supposed to romantic, but my first reaction is LOL. Perhaps our Hyukie isn’t as good looking as the other members, but that nice dorky smile of an anchovy sure gets him some nice girls! (I mean, who doesn’t love that adorable smile and talent of his?)

Lee HyukJae (born April 4, 1986), better known by his stage name Eunhyuk, is a Korean dancer, rapper, presenter, song writer, and occasional actor. He is a part of the thirteen member South Korean boyband Super Junior. His position in the group is the lead rapper and one of the three lead dancers alongside fellow band members Shindong and Donghae.

To prevent confusion with famous Korean comedian Lee Hyeok-jae, he decided to use the stage name ‘Eunhyuk’, meaning “Silver Hyuk”.

Besides being part of Super Junior and Super Junior’s sub-groups, Super Junior-T, Super Junior-Happy and recently, Super Junior-M, Eunhyuk has made a name for himself by appearing in numerous CFs, variety shows and music programs.

Among the general audience and fans alike, Eunhyuk is nicknamed the “Dancing Machine” of Super Junior. His best friend is fellow bandmate Donghae, whom he has known for more than 10 years.

Eunhyuk was born Lee Hyuk-jae in Neunggok, Goyang, Gyeonggi. In 1999 when he turned thirteen, he auditioned for SM Entertainment through the company’s Starlight Casting System with childhood friend Kim Junsu. Kim Junsu was selected to sign a contract with the company soon after, but Eunhyuk failed the audition. He auditioned again the following year and was finally selected through showcasing his rapping and dancing abilities.

Under SM Entertainment, Eunhyuk was further trained in singing, dancing, acting, and had brief Mandarin Chinese language courses. In 2002 Eunhyuk, Kim Junsu, and another trainee Sungmin were placed in a project R&B group.

A year later, the trio along with three future members from TRAX (Jay Kim, No Minwoo, Kang Jungwoo) made a brief appearance in a show called Heejun vs. Kangta, Battle of the Century: Pop vs. Rock, in which Moon Hee-jun and Kangta individually taught them techniques on different types of singing. Later that year, Eunhyuk’s trio disbanded, and Kim Junsu debuted as a member of TVXQ in 2003.

Eunhyuk and Sungmin were instead placed together in another project group with ten other male trainees. The twelve boys formed the group Super Junior 05, being the first generation of the rotational boy band Super Junior.

With a total of twelve members, Super Junior 05 officially debuted on November 6, 2005 on SBS’s music program Popular Songs, performing their first single, “TWINS (Knock Out)”.

Their debut performance attracted over 500 fans and also garnered oversea viewers from both China and Japan. A full studio album was released a month later, which debuted at #3 on the monthly MIAK K-pop album charts.

In March 2006, SM Entertainment began to recruit new members for the next Super Junior generation. However, plans changed when the company added in a thirteenth member, Kyuhyun, and the company declared a halt in forming future Super Junior generations. The group dropped the suffix “05″ and became officially credited as Super Junior.

The re-polished group hit big after they released their first CD single “U” the following summer, which became Super Junior’s most successful single in the music charts until the release of “Sorry, Sorry” in March 2009.

Eunhyuk is an acclaimed lyricist and wrote the rap lyrics for a majority of Super Junior’s songs. The rap lyrics to “Show Me Your Love” from the winter single with TVXQ was written by him, along with Heechul and Shindong.

Leeteuk and Eunhyuk

Leeteuk: Are you willing to pay my phone bills for me?
Eunhyuk: (laugh) Ah, we used Leeteuk's phone to call in the other time.
Leeteuk: I'll hand over the entire overseas phone calls bill to KTR and they'll pay (for me).
Eunhyuk: Actually, Leeteuk spent a lot during this trip.
Leeteuk: Aw~
Eunhyuk: Yes. If I were to say something, during this trip, we use games every day to determine who is going to pay for the bill after each dinner. There’s only one loser, but...
Leeteuk: That is okay. Actually going on this trip, I've already planned to treat the dongsaengs to delicious food. But having lost continuously, I started to feel indignant about it.
Eunhyuk: In the beginning, we played rock paper scissors and after that, we played spelling game, snakes and ladders and many other games. Leeteuk really spent a lot of money. (laugh)
Leeteuk: I didn't manage to buy anything in the end.
Eunhyuk: That's right.
Leeteuk: Actually when you do exchange for foreign currency, the money is very little. Nearly half of it was spent on food.
Eunhyuk: I didn't lose even once, really... I'm so happy. (laugh)
Leeteuk: We were actually thinking that, since it's a rare opportunity to go on a vacation for a week, so we saved on instant noodles. In the end, we ate a lot on the first day we were there.
Eunhyuk: We ordered everything edible.

Leeteuk: How much does a can of coke cost?
Eunhyuk: 1 can of coke cost at least 4000-5000 won. We wanted 5 cans, so...
